Anyone know how to do this?

The new update has restricted by browser settings so I can't acess certain websites and the OS wants me to scan a credit card for age verification. I don't want o do this for reasons of trust and privacy, is my ipad now ruined?

Thanks

How old is the account?

If the account is old enough, they should just use that as a determination of age without having to use any other information.

Bought it about 5 years ago. Shame as it was a good device. Guess I'll have to sell it and get an android tablet.

I should get about 100 for it on cex for example.

The benefit of single on device age verification is that individual apps won’t ask for it. This has already happened with pornhub allowing it back in the UK for anyone who has an age verified Apple account.

I have no doubt Android will go the same way.

Like it or not, age verification is coming to everything.

Apple accept credit card, driving licence, passport or account age.

Maybe so, but at least you can load custom OS on android.

I don't like not having control over a device, I should have known better than to buy an apple product, TBH!

Every major company in the world already has all my details and credit card numbers, and probably passwords.

China and Russia too I expect!

Maybe use laptop for browsing instead?

I have a PCs and laptops, but when I'm half watching tv in bed a tablet works better than a phone for general browsing, as a phone is too small and a laptop too clumbersome. That's basically the only time I use the tablet as its perfect for that.

I guess I'll just sell the ipad and get an android tablet of some description.

Bit dramatic when all you need to do is add a credit card to Apple wallet, not really a privacy violation and to be fair out of all the companies I’d trust Apple with my privacy over an Android tablet of some description.

Age verification isn’t going away.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google did the same with Android at some point.

Much different on Android though, far easier to avoid.

Age restrictions only apply to play store downloads, so you can just sideload anything you want. Web filtering only applies to Chrome, so you can just use an alternative browser. IOS is more of a faff to sideload and the web filters apply to all browsers as they are all just Safair under the hood (all use Apples web engine).

Can also just use a custom rom. My next Android device will be something that can use GrapheneOS. They have already said they won't be putting in any identity verification and there's nothing the goons at Ofcom can do about it. Buy phone with standard Android, load on Graphene afterwards.

I don't think it's dramatic, it's out of order. You bought an unrestricted device, then without warning, suddenly it's restricted, unless you identify yourself. Apple also intentionally hid it, it was not in the update notes, so you couldn't reject the update if you didn't want it either.

It's massive change to the device you already bought, shouldn't be allowed. Apply to accounts going forward, so people know what they are buying into, fair enough. But to apply it to devices people already bought, is not right. It's not the law either, OSA doesn't require OS level filtering.

To be fair that isn't Apples fault. It is the governments fault for passing an awful law.

It is though. The OSA doesn't require OS level verification.

"Ofcom added new rules to the Online Safety Act in 2025 which forced tech firms to strengthen child safety protections, however that does not currently cover bringing in age checks at a device level."

The OSA does not require you to do age checks at the device level. So it's 100% Apples fault, the law does not require it. Apple just decided to do it, decided to hide the fact they are doing it and applied it to everyone instead of just new accounts. It's on Apple, 100%.
