So first day at work since the majority of the snow fell, and I spend the entire day fixing cars that have fallen victim to the snow. Wait thats not right, fixing cars that have been driven by careless idiots.

Fitted 4 bottom wishbones, 2 steering rods and track rods, 1 shock absorber, reattached a front bumper, reattached a rear bumper, replaced a broken headlight, stripped down and waiting for a new rear axle, and I'm now sick of doing wheel allignment. Arnold Clark storeman told me he'd been getting orders for front suspension components all day, and he was out of stock on many models.
Seriously can't people just slow down for the corners?

The cars were totally random, the drivers were young and old, so everyones at it, expecting their cars to still go round corners the same as usual. One of the traffic cops that were in past said there were 89 "incidents" on the roads over the weekend in the north east of scotland, and that's just the reported ones!
Shameful.

I was up in aberdeen on friday doing a show, and literally driving up there (from edinburgh) was a nightmare, past dundee the snow hit pretty hard, saw tons of cars (mainly bmws lmao) stuck and abandoned. Ended up just staying the night. But yeah theres no chance in hell you could speed around corners, by early hours of the morning it was all iced up, I was going like 5mph lol.

Doesn't suprise me.

Last year I was collecting my girlfriend from her works Xmas do, driving on almost virgin snow, coming home some impatient sod overtakes me, two corners later pass him as his car has gone through a hedge.

I live in the highlands going about 30, there was folk overtaking me tonight. Was waiting for him to miss a corner.

i drove 10 miles on the m8 yesterday and passed at least 4 cars by the side of the road with police mitsibushis beside them, and one just getting winched onto the 911 truck.

I see it all the time and I really, really despair at the way some people drive in conditions like we are experiencing up and down the country just now. Sad to say, but it keeps me busy in my job at this time of year.

I don't see why people have such a hard time moderating their speed in the snow. It's not difficult, there is a layer of frozen, semi-solid material between you and the road - so back off a bit and leave a decent gap to the car in front.

Agreed, but some folk, mostly the ones that can't drive for toffee in the dry in June have only a few brain cells to rub together. These are the muppets you see driving like tubes at this time of year on snow and ice covered roads.

I suppose we can always console ourselves with the Darwin theory. :D

AWD>winter tyres

epic driving skilzz1111one111!!!>all

as stated plenty of bent metal sitting about round scotland atm :)
always amazes me the amount of people that park at the bottom of icy hills this time of year, are they praying for an insurance payout?

Mad isn't it. Pathetic, too. Really frustrated me on the way into work this morning, was only about 5mm too.

It's not as if people haven't had the chance to practice? I don't understand it :(

It's the gap that matters most imo. Last year on the night it first properly snowed I'd finished work late and set off home. It was pretty bad over the tops but took me about 10 minutes extra than it normally would to do a 20 mile trip. It was good fun too.

In the morning, after it had been gritted and the roads were mainly just slushy the reverse journey took about an hour and a half becasue of all the knob heads driving at 20mph 10 feet apart and crashing into each other. Some of them seemed shocked when I overtook to get out of their way.

Touch wood we haven't had this...yet!!!, just an endless stream of people after batteries, glow plugs and wanting their antifreeze checking...
:)

Speaking of wishbones, are there any decent pattern brands out there?

One of the bushes in one of the wishbones on my Mondeo has seen better days so I intend to replace both wishbones. They cost a silly amount from Ford but I have read horror stories of 6-month life spans on cheap alternatives.

Looked out the window earlier this morning before it got too thick and saw quite a few people piling up the road as if all was normal. Was quite surprised to not find any of them on the traffic island.
