Roller Garage Door Openers - any recommendations?

Hi all

I’ve currently got two doors controlled by NECO controllers, specifically these:

I’m looking at options to replace it with something ‘smarter’ or add smart functionality to this controller.

Even if I stick with the NECO units, I’m looking to replace at least one controller as it’s a bit flakey sometimes (just doesn’t respond to the remotes, turn or off and on or come back 10 mins later it works fine). The remotes are not very good quality either.

I’m about to order my 3rd set in 5 years because either the open or the close button has stopped working. For one door I am using one remote for open and another for close, as I don’t have two remotes with all working buttons!

In any case, this seems to be one of those areas where there is a general lack of documentation for products and frankly the products haven’t moved on since the 90’s.

So my general requirements are:
Reliable
Good quality remotes
Internet connected ‘smart’ functionality, ideally with local control via home assistant.

It’s the last part which seems to be tripping me up.

NECO controllers have a Tuya smart controller which you can add on that seems to integrate with my existing units and there is a Tuya integration for home assistant. This is probably the cheapest option.

The other option seems to be using a Meross smart controller and a compatible door controller. This one will cover both doors:

Any recommendations from the OCUK hive mind?

OK I just had a look at my Ali account ...

I bought a 2ch and a 4ch relay for a total of 19 US dollars (always pay in dollars it's cheaper than in GBP)
Thing to look out for is the input - both can be set up and powered with micro usb - for setup this is practical for application deployment not so.
Therefore you have to check how you want them powered - for the 2ch I opted for 240V mains as I was basically converting a single outdoor floodlight into 2 smart floodlights. The 4ch is in the shed so wanted DC input for that

NOW here's the brucie bonus - You can pair ANY 433mhz remote or switch to the relay which is done through the Tuya app

So in my 2ch application I bought a nice looking 433 touch switch (12-13 squid off the bay I think) that I paired and simply stuck to the kitchen wall so you got some sort of manual control

EDIT : Final edit - The relays were finally added to Home assistant via local Tuya so no need for internet

I'm not sure if direct links are possible but here's a sample of what I bought
Make sure you buy the housing for the relays - it's slightly more expensive but worth it

The switches above also work but a nicer one is this

Thanks for the heads up, I hadn’t appreciated it’s a rebranded generic product.

Is this it?

Yup but buy with the housing, don't just buy the board

Great, thank you!

I may get 2X 2 channel units for a cleaner install as the controllers are on opposite sides of the garage but that’s £40 saved per door!

I take PPG

No worries mate, have a lovely day

Sorry for repeating myself but take note of the exact model with housing and the type of power input you want, you know how Ali is but you should know this already if you've purchased from them before

Yeh Ali is a nightmare for that.

The NECO branded units have the 7-32V DC input, I’ll double check my controller actually has that available before I order otherwise I’ll get AC.

I recommend the eurodrive qualkit panel installed hundreds of these over the years also using a compatible ups they put the ups to sleep in a power cut the ups will be in standby for atleast 12 hours

Quick update on this, the Tuya 2 channel relays worked a treat and even fitted into the original controller boxes.

Edit: pic added and yes finishing painting the wall is on the list.

Nice one,

My installation of the 4ch and 2ch controllers went well too
I love the switch pairing which is great if you need a manual override ie is wife friendly :D
