Roller Garage Door Options

Hey guys,

Just trying to work out my options for the garage door in new place I'm in the process of buying.

It has a standard up and over door set back in the garage doorway. Plan would be to replace with an electric roller door sat further forwards which would mean I'd gain an extra ~80cm in the garage however, bringing it forwards would mean it has no headroom above the opening, presumably it can sit behind/in part of the doorway (Albeit with the head height restriction that brings...) - does anyone have experience of how that would work? What I've read googling seems to imply it would be fine but without clarifying how it would sit/be setup.

Pic of the garage (plan would be to fit the door forward to the next step - albeit that would mean having tarmac for the first bit of the garage floor..)

If it makes any difference it is an integral garage also.

The roller door enclosure could just be fitted perfectly fine to your front most wall position. Yes you would lose head room, but the enclosure would act as the top facia to the outside perfectly fine.

I am getting a roller door fitted to my old concrete prefab garage later this year. The chap who came round for the survey confirmed I could just have the roller door fitted now, but it would reduce headroom to much, so as I was already planning a roof replacement, I will raise the roof before getting the door fitted, that way I lose as little as possible head room.

Thanks for the reply :) Did you get an idea of how much headroom would be taken up? My plan is to also pull down the white fascia to see if that's just covering an empty space above as inside the garage is taller and the floor above inside the house obviously is the same height.

It'll just be my Noble going in/out the door (and have a side door for access also) so don't think there will be any issue for me to lose the headroom currently.

Good to know though that the roller door enclosure could be fitted where I thought it could though.

Thanks,
Alex

you've contemplated the dripping you get off of the roller door ... that's the bain of my life;
in an earlier thread we had discussed the longevity of the electric motors, as my neighbour had expensively found, so I think you have to be diligent about maintenance.

I have a roller door and suffer no ‘dripping’. Could you expand a little because I am not sure what you are referring to?
