I have this really weird error. I install the game and patch it and first time I load it, it runs great. I finish playing and exit the game, but next time I go to start it up I get an error as per this screenshot:

This happens no matter which version its patched to and it's really doing my head in... any ideas whats causing it?

I've seen it a few times, a work around seems to be ejecting the CD and then putting it back in again before running the game again.

You're a genius, it works! I'll live with ejecting the CD and putting it back in again, thanks a lot man it was driving me nuts. :)

No worries, weird problem eh? :)

Yeah very odd, when I play a game a lot it usually stays in one of my drives 24/7, so taking it out and putting it in was probably the last thing that would have sprung to my mind. Have a good weekend mate. :)

Thanks, you too.

I would definitely recommend installing Rome: Total Realism, it's a free mod that makes the game about a million times better. You can run the vanilla version of Rome and Realism by copying the original directory and renaming it then installing RTR into it.

www.rometotalrealism.org

It truly is great.

I'm on the tech support team on the RTR forums so give me a shout if you get any problems.

lol I just downloaded it yesterday. along with the warhammer mod. :D

Hmm since i've patched to 1.5 I wpnt be able to install the realism nod will I... doh!

You involved in its development then? :)

1.5 eh? Well it's probably best using 1.2 tbh, some people have got it working with 1.5 though iirc.

No I'm not a developer I wouldn't mind but I haven't got the time :D

Good that you've got a solution. Do you have daemon tools installed? Only ask because I used to get this one with RTW and eventually traced it back to being DT conflicting with the copy protection on the CD. Never quite could figure why it let me play once though...

I have got Daremon Toold but my copy of Rome is fully legit. I can imagine the conflict occurring though.

I work for a major AV company and we have just about bagged The Creative Assembly as a client... they are just down the road and my boss went to give thema demo of our product and got some free games. How cool is that. :D

Wasn't meaning to imply otherwise

Nice benefit of having industry contacts! Make sure you ask your boss to keep an eye out for extra-exclusive Medieval 2 tidbits next time there's a visit!! ;)
