How do you make naval trades in Rome: Total War?

I see other factions have little boats following dotted lines, but none are red (I took House of Julii).
I've has trade rights accepted by neutral factions, and it didn't add the little boats.

Any help please?

Automatically, but you and your trade partner take the shotest route, and if boats are not needed they wont use them. :) (IIRC)

Sorry to hijack the thread but i just bought total war:eras and are a bit confused by rome.

for some reason i just cant get some of my cities to stabilise, they've got really bad public approval ratings, mainly because of squalor, but i've bought the updated sewer etc, and the only options i've got remaining are military buildings, its even set to the lowest tax rating and they still riot.

should i just stick it on auto manage or something, or is there anything i can do.

Although I'm sure there are ways of managing them seccuessfully, I found that waiting for them to riot, then stomping all over them with a great big army when they did generally fixed things for a few years :p .

if you just conquered the city make sure you keep a large military garrison

doesn't have to be your best units just train loads of town watches

also make sure you build buildings that improve squalor and if you have a arena should that should also help

as a last resort you can make your city rebel buy putting the tax rate to the highest
and when you reconquer the city exterminate the populace

cold and brutal, sounds like a plan...

also a bit noobish but is there a way to swivel a unit whilst in battle, i got attacked by some reserves behind me and had a few troubles getting my army turned around.

Great game though :D nothing better than stomping through an army twice your size.

building units from unruly towns lowers the population (becuase they join the new units)

so theres less squalor etc making them happy.

plus the military units keep them in check

when u take a city kill the whole population. Then knock down the religous buildings and replace it with your own. A city with a different religion to yours will always have a chance of revolting.
