Rookie to rider

If for example i purchased a new SV650 for around 4.5k or a used MT07 around the same time, how much value do you think this will lose in 2 years?

Only reason i ask is, with the BMW offer on the G 310 R instead of the F800R it should be around £99 a month

£99 x 24 = 2376 + 500 deposit = 2876
and that includes me getting kit and passing a test

Yes after 2 years im handing it back but will the above models lose as much money as this?

Anyway i prefer the styling of the MT-07 but the SV650 is fantastic value with the deal i can get on the Suzuki scheme. Hard choice

I will probably email a few contacts to see if i can get some kit thrown in for free.

You're speculating about the £99 per month based on the bikes original price, I doubt BMW will price it as such.

BMW will be making more on these bikes than selling new, and don't forget unless you return the bike as new with very low miles you will be getting charged more.

When we say drop it that doesn't just mean come off it, it could simply fall over ect.

If you return it with any damage or repaired damage your going to end up paying nigh on what it cost to buy it outright anyway , and BMW will still have a bike to sell on.

You are totally correct, Im leaning towards a new SV650, im not bothered about having a new one but with my Suzuki affiliate scheme i think the price is something like £4300. Lowest bank loan i can be accepted for makes it around £138 a month for 3 years.

Also the speculation is only half and half, i talked to come contacts and he said he would expect it to be around that price.

Why do you say that? Aside from styling preferences the only real advantage the MT-07 has over the Suzuki is it weighs a bit less.

If you want a bargain, then there are some good deals around on 2016 models of SV650S (the previous generation of SV). e.g. £3895 with 0% finance. Some 125's cost more than that.

More torque, more power, and yes it weighs less. That, as well as the way it's set up, looks and sounds in comparison to the SV make it a far, far nicer bike imo. Ive ridden both and owned one. Guess which!

More torque but actually slightly less power. The new SV has 75bhp, the MT-07 has 74bhp.

The MT-07 has a 270 degree crank so it sounds just like a 90 degree V-twin. The SV has a 90 degree V-twin.

They haven't changed the brakes on the SV, still the old 2 pot sliding calipers whereas the MT07 has proper 4-pots. Other than that I think they're pretty neck and neck, although suzuki build quality might be a reason to buy the Yamaha :p

To be fair I've heard a few people saying that the MT07 finish doesn't stand up very well after a year or 2.

So it does. Not sure 1 extra HP will make up for the extra 20kg though!
