just thought id share this with you
on tuesday i decided ( stupidly ) to re arrange my room were the computer is. took about 3hours and was a right ball ache, cables wires, games dvds you name it all over the place. looks good now tho.
anyway ive moved the case and is now sitting by the side of a slightly drafty window, the rear exhaust is no longer pushing air right onto a wall, and the side intake is pulling air from window area. temps have dropped by 3 - 4 degrees.
oh and while i was tidying i conducted my own little experement, i opened all windows in the room ( the day it was snowing ) and turned off the heating in the room, bhoy was it cold. when i plugged everything back in and powered on core temp was reading 19 on core 1 and 22 on core 2, and evga precission was reading 23. since then window has been shut and heating back on, temps now idle @ 25 - 27 cpu and 25-29 on core 216
just thought id share this with you all.
so the moral of this story, tidy your room !

Just the height of your tower placement can make a Drastic difference.
I stick mine on the bottom shelf during Summer which offsets the higher ambient temps & allows me to keep my clocks.
One thing that ****** me off is when I see a Tower backed up tight against the wall with the owner/user moaning about temps/crashing etc I mean I ask ya  < Legit rolleyes me thinks :D

When I wall mounted my pc - all the temps when up a few degree :(
lower ambient temp at floor level in a centrally heated room (opposite with under floor heating btw)
so complete agreement with malc30 finding

HHD seamed noisier too (due to shorted more direct noise path) and no fan hum to hide the seak noise
