Hey,

Does anyone know any decent roomcooling solutions?

My PC heats up my room pretty fast and it's been a real problem for my skin condition.

What do you guys use to stop your room getting ridiculously hot?

Thanks,

Hatton

Unless your room is constantly in the shade and your computer puts out biblical amounts of heat, I imagine the 2 billion billion billion tonne thermonuclear furnace we orbit around probably heats your room up more than the computer. May I suggest some good blinds, and as mentioned before keeping a window open?

I installed a split in my room a few years ago, this will be a lot quieter than a mobile unit and will be able to supply heat in the winter if needed.

split is an air cooler as i am aware do they help ?

edit: eats loads of electricity windows is best option for me .

Split is a proper ac unit, but you would ideally need to look at a inverter model which are slighty more energy efficent as this will vary the speed of the compressor to maintain room temperature.

I can't remember the exact costs of mine but I do not run it the 24/7 only at certain times when it was needed.

You could use a evaporative cooler were you fill a water tank with water and as the air passes through this cools the air, but you need to keep topping up the tank and they probabaly make the room humid.

A fan and or ac is the only other options really.

I used to just use a fan to blow the air from my desk area towards the window, however as I got more gear and changed the design of the room it didnt really work. Luckily installing a split AC unit was easy as pie as I only had to go through the roof into the attic then out the wall...

The AC unit I got is about £1k retail price, however I got a broken one off ebay for about £100 and repaired it.

I wouldnt pay more than £100 for AC. In england its just not worth it unless you are running a datacenter in your house. I only bought this because it was a bargain and easy to fix.

Dont get me wrong, you can get AC for much cheaper than £1k, I just happened to stumble across one RRPing for that much for a lot less

The motor that drove the condenser unit was knackered. The guy on the well known auction site I got it off couldn't be bothered to get it repaired or see what was wrong - it was only about a £75 fix!

The condenser fan, indeed a pretty easy fix, good deal there.

Edit: There are cheaper options, have a look at the DIY versions from B&Q.

Also you can save a lot if you are willing to install the unit yourself. Worth trying if you are the least bit competent with a drill.
