Laser allegedly shone in eyes of player during penalty soot out

Don't really care for the chap, but this is not on :(

The Football Association will investigate the directing of a laser towards Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney during Wednesday's Capital One Cup clash with Middlesbrough.

A green laser light appeared on the United captain's face as he prepared to take a penalty during the shoot-out defeat at Old Trafford that cost his side a place in the quarter-finals.

Rooney's effort was saved by Boro goalkeeper Tomas Mejias as United were beaten 3-1 on penalties, following a 0-0 draw after extra-time.

He needs a new guidance system as this one doesn't work well with penalties...

On a more serious note...

What an idiotic thing to do. Anyone being caught deserves a big fine and some prison time. In these parts we gets the idiots pointing them at aircraft.

Anytime I watch some of the European matches this seems to happen more often than not while its not that common here in Britain. Agree with what spacedeck wrote though.

A mickey mouse cup i am glad we are out. I reckon after this £12m testimonial we should have a cup of tea about a free transfer back to Everton. Maybe even sow the seeds for Stones now Chelsea are having a bad run and the vodoo is good what better time to strike?

Martial up front and Jones or Stones to partner mike the beast smalling? Geesh i am giddy at the knees here a bit!

I recall this happening a lot in European games, particularly noticing it during the Classico a year or two ago when Messi took two penalties in the match.
