Root permissions on Server 2k8

I have a server running 2k8 which is a Terminal Services server. Everyone logs onto it and runs a main database application. Now I've locked everyone down pretty tightly on it restricting access to the C drive etc.

I've come into a problem today whereby one user needs to run an export from the database application and the only place the database application will allow you to save to is the root of the C drive. I've unrestricted access to the C drive for that user so that they can browse to it now, however I understand that the only group that has write priveledges to C drive is the administrators group and I don't want to add her to that!

Is there some sort of policy I've missed that will allow me to let her write to it? Or do I just have to change the permission for the whole drive to allow her write permissions?

I've tried speaking to the support for the application they use but they fobbed me off and told me there was no way the save location could be changed..

Thanks for any advice!

You'd probably have to reinstall your apps, but there's a procedure to change the drive letter of a system drive.

A bit of a clumsy solution to be honest. Sounds like a complete mickey mouse product though!

A better idea would be to run a basic XP machine as a VM on the terminal server just for that app

Yeh, but unfortunately they've been using it for years! The support guys were useless too and didn't seem to know what they were doing when they were on site with me..

They only need to do the report from the database once a month and we updated their old 2k servers to new 2k8 servers last month.. Typical this was the one thing that slipped through the testing!

I ended up making a group with the user in and adding the group to have modify permissions to the C drive with this folder only set. Not the best way to do it but with them nagging at me because they need to do some reports I've had to do it that way!

It saves the report to the root of the drive? Does it not even give you an option to put it in a folder?
