Rosberg retires with immediate effect

Personally, as a Hamilton fan, I hope they don't put a 'No. 2 Driver' in the seat.

Assuming Mercedes continue to stay strong (even if not as utterly dominant as they currently are) the likelihood is they will be challenging for the title next year.

If Hamilton has no competition within the team it's going to be a pretty dull season, especially if Mercedes are as dominant next season as they have been.

Of course, it will be awesome for him and racking up WDC titles, but it's going to be boring for us as spectators.

Most of us said through the Vettel years that we'd like to see Lewis and Seb in the same machinery, maybe this will be our chance.

Hell, if Alonso gets the seat there's going to be fireworks no matter what happens. I just want to be entertained. :p

Damn you! At least I stopped it before the music started. :D

I'm really hoping we'll see a mix of constructors challenging for the title next year. Single constructor domination is dull.

Eh. I'd like to see him go against one of the best drivers on the grid.

Might not have been the fastest driver on the grid but he was a model professional and German so Mercedes must be gutted.

He was fined 200k for hitting Hamilton in Spa in 2014 from the team for his actions. He has repeatedly be the cause of friction within the team by causing trouble with Hamilton. He often went and did incredibly whiny interviews of social media videos explaining how hitting Hamilton or shoving Verstappen off the track wasn't his fault and how he never did anything wrong. His actions alone(and nothing else) brought a shedload of boos over multiple podium appearances.

Model professional might be pushing it a little far.

Conversely if Merc aren't as dominant then a no.2 driver could help other teams compete for the constructors at least by bringing less points.

Either way I'd say of the top drivers in F1 Hamilton is pretty much the only one not to push for no.1 status in a team at any point, he never cared how good his team mate was, has never stated he would leave if another driver was added, etc.

Alonso, Schumi, Vettel and many others in the past. Many of them have thrown tantrums due to a team not giving them a massive amount of preferential treatment. Hamilton has never done this, been angry when everything goes wrong on his side of the garage and not the other, sure, true of any driver, but complained loudly about not being treated better, never even close. In fact he's made a point of saying in an interview that he's never asked for no.1 status in a contract while other current drivers had(said a few years back iirc).

As an F1 fan I'd love to see Vettel and Hamilton in the same team going for the title.

They have dominated F1 in recent years and it would be good to see who comes out ahead.

Thinking about it, I can't see Vettel wanting to be in the same team as Hamilton. He won't want to damage his legacy by coming second. Hamilton thinks he will beat any other driver so doesn't care.

.

lol - Lewis has never made any friends in F1 especially in his teams. You can think what you want about Rosberg driving skills, but you can't say he is not a gentleman. Rosberg has had no friction with any other drivers, teammates included. Whereas Lewis creates drama with all his teammates, drivers, mechanics, bosses etc.... Even Jensen called him a tit when Lewis tried to shunt him off the straight in Canada back in the McLaren days. Even LH's best mate Subtil won't talk to him anymore. If one can't get along with Jensen or Rosberg then one is the problem!

PS I am not a Rosberg fanboy, my fav driver is Ricciardo
