Ross Brawn back to Ferrari?

Bare in mind that it was Ross that was the brains behind all seven of shuey's titles.. He's just as much a technical expert, as he is a team principle.

While this is very true , and he produced the Brawn which thanks to a loophole in the rules was very good for 1/2 a season.

It has to be said Merc was a bit of a disaster for him though

Wouldnt be at all surprised if Ferrari tried to tempt him back, but I think it would be a disaster for Hammy (in one sense Winter is the worst time of year you want a change in the principle engineer like Brawn or Newey, as surely the new guy has to develop his predeccor's ideas, rather than arriving in April/May time to start his designs fresh)

I always liked the elegance of McLaren's old idea of having two seperate design teams for each alternating year (maybe other teams did this also, but I only heard of McLaren doing this). Obviously now this wouldnt work (financially primarily) and there is always the risk that something developed late couldnt be incorporated into the new car and things like that.

what was brawns role at ferrari?

Technical Director. Same role that he held at Benetton from '91 onwards.

Also chief designer of the Jaguar XJR-14 that won the '91 World Sportscar Championship, which I hadn't remembered until I looked up the year that he started at Benetton.

Has Brawn genuinely been rubbish at Mercedes, or is it more of a case of him be stifled by the Mercedes Corporate steam roller? I never really got the sense that it was "his team" like you did with his previous teams. Mercedes clearly realise they need to change tact as the setup they have run with the last 3 years isn't working. There is definitely a shake up going on. Perhaps Mercedes have realised they failed him?

also seeing people claim DD was brawns idea when it wasnt and DDRS is biggest joke of the season merc even took it off because it was such a fail

The idea is solid, but their application was ****.

Red Bull's method was much more reliable and didn't require a tunnel from front to back :p

Out if interest, do you have a source for the creator of the double diffuser?

I've sensed this as well... but then I thought this as soon as I didn't see him wearing a jacket with his own name emblazoned upon it. That feels like a step back in itself.

Maybe it's because he just hasn't been in the limelight as much this season as well, with that dog of a car.

It was ben wood the aerodynamacist that joined brawn from super aguri

google it and you will find dozens of articles from journalists all saying it.

It's the age old thing of 'is team A bad, or is it that teams B, C and D have been exceptionally good?'....

That's how I'm looking at it anyway. RBR have the stars aligned right now, McLaren's design team has been delivering even when the strategists and pitwall decision makers have been cocking it all up, Ferrari have had the man who is probably the best out there right now driving the wheels off their car, LOLtus-Genii-Renault's car had some nice design touches that allowed Kimi to release some serious performance, and Merc....well, the car was okay, for the most part. But tyre management is still an issue, like it was for quite a lot of 2009. You sort-of expect it in a season where they had to modify the car late to accept a wholly different engine, but now? We've had three seasons of racing after that, and they still don't have a handle on it. Maybe it really is down to the driving. Rosberg and Schumacher both had good races this year, but neither was consistently on top form - understandably in Schumacher's case given that he was coming up on his final retirement, less so for Rosberg.

But it still had to go through Ross to get developed and put on the car?

Saying he was not a big part at Ferrari is just silly really, why did MS want him to join him at Ferrari if he was not all that important?

It's pretty clear Ferrari lack people with Intelligence, the fact they make 4 rubbish cars on the trot and this year the upgrades they gave to Alonso didn't even seem to work in the 2nd half of the season, Something needs to be done or Ferrari wont be able to beat Adrian Newey.

Well the previous Ferrari's have been a lot of things, but definitely not rubbish, just look at HRT :p

Newey is just too creative. He knows loopholes too well.

Well when i say rubbish i'm being a bit sarcastic, Ferrari and Mclaren have the best resources in F1 so there is no excuse from Ferrari if they cant make a car that is at least on par with the Mclaren. they have not had a race winning car for 4 years. they have won the odd few races and it's not been good enough.

Ferrari's wind tunnel is old compared to the rest, the lack of track testing has really hurt them and they have been sluggish to react to the testing ban, wind tunnel restrictions etc. They need a new breed of engineer.

It's probably cheaper in the long run to just hire Newey for seventy squillion and give the title supreme chancellor. Not only would they get the winning car they would get to see Vettel cry on a bi-weekly basis. Win win.

I hope Brawn goes back to Ferrari and leaves Mercedes in the rot they have created, like the other German engine manufacturer that got above themselves ;)

Buy a load of land in an obscure country
Build test track
Run 1,000,000,000 laps
Optimise car
????
Profit

Surely this can be pulled off?
