Hi,

Looking at getting a nice modern kitchen installed for my parents at some stage as theirs is ancient and looks rubbish. I don't own a house myself and have no clue about costs etc. I've seen some great looking units from 1-2k but I want to know how much the design, fitting and associated labour would be as I'd want the flooring and tiling to be done too.

What other costs do I need to consider? Appliances? Does anyone do a comprehensive package that has it all that I can look at?

Cheers

it depends on lots of factors, how big, what standard you want (granite worktops?) do you need all new/fitted appliances, does lots of new wiring or plumbing need to be done etc etc.

In my new build i think out kitchen was roughly £8-10k maybe including granite worktops and all appliances like american fridge freezer and range cooker.

Oh, MX5 or Mondeo.

4-8 Mondeos

More helpfully anywhere from around £5k to £xxx sky's the limit really if you want someone to do a full package. You will need to allow for appliances, flooring, worktops, plumbing if you want to move anything around plus potentially skimming etc if the units are relocated

Almost every place that gives you a quote will have massive room to move (and will claim they have already given you the "best price"). Don't get bent over on the price of Granite for a worktop, it really isn't that expensive for the supplier to buy (in the region of £2.5k / m3 + finishing).

The actual fitting is likely to be the smallest cost. These guys will clear around £150 a day for themselves, anything more is all overhead/profit for the company - so decide whether what you think is shown is reasonable

What's your budget?

Any Age/Mileage maximum requirements?

I'm not sure i'd want kitchen units if they've travelled tens of thousands of miles.

Go to Howden's.

Take your measurements and they'll design you something and take your pick from their range and then haggle haggle haggle. I don't recommend their Lamona range of appliances really.

For example I'm just doing a kitchen myself and my appliances including rangemaster, american fridge, dishwasher, wine fridge and separate washer and drier was about £4k at currys which I thought wasn't that bad. All but the rangemaster (obv) are Bosch.

But in reality you can pay as little, or as much, as you like. You could, with ease, spend £100k on a kitchen!

It will depend on two factors:
1. Size
2. Quality

If you want a low push cost option (e.g. Something basic from B&Q) and it's a "typical" sized kitchen, which I would put at 3x4m or around that, then I expect you're looking at prices of £3k+ for fitted, but then extra for flooring/tiling, and possibly more spending on what appliances you need/want.

Flooring could easily be another £500-£1000 and tiling could easily run into hundreds, depending on how much there is to do, and how much you want to tackle yourself.

Kitchens are not cheap, and you could quite easily spend £10-15k now on a fully fitted kitchen.

Kitchen Units could range from as little as £50 to 150 per carcass (so multiply by the number of carcasses you need). DIY-Kitchens.com seems best value for money.

Add in appliances roughly £350-500 each

Add in sink, tap roughly another £350-500 total

Add in tiling £20-30 per square metre

Add in worktop £40-50 per linear metre for laminate or £150 per linear metre for granite/silestone

Add in £1000-1500 for fitting & cutting

Add in £300-500 for plumbing extension or rework

Add in £300-500 for electrics extension or rework

That should give you a rough indication of what you're looking at.

Not sure anyone on here can advise the best place in NZ to use for kitchens.

As has been said, how long is a piece of string as you can spend as little or as much as you want and all the variables are mindboggling.

Best thing to do is get a company out to do a 'plan' thats satisfactory and then use that for other companies to compare.

There is very small margin for error on granite worktops and this adds to the price, it's easier to get right now with the laser measuring software but this also comes at a price as does holding stock, tooling and man power. We've done islands that have taken 6 men to carry

Although the quality of the units is a factor, the person installing will be a big part as well. You get some monkey in who charges £100 for the job, you'll wish you hadn't.

For stuff like floors and tiles etc you can source those yourself; have a look around see what you like and decide what your budget is, if you see tiles that you like that are £100 per m2 you can have a look around for similar ones for around that price.
Same for floors, decide the kind of floor you want; real wood, laminate, karndean, vinyl and have a look at prices to give yourself an idea.
