Roundabout markings question

Just wondering if anyone has any idea on the correct use of this roundabout/gyratory system is. It's mainly about having to follow guidance markers or not. So, approaching the roundabout from this road and wanting to take the 3rd exit (which I'd say is at 12 o'clock in the sign approaching the roundabout). Which lane should I use?

According to the markings leading up to the roundabout I can use either since they both have the forward arrow. However, the 2nd exit is just before where two lanes end up merging. I find this quite contradictory. The guidance markings tell you to exit here (not where I want to go) from the left lane, but the lane also carries on and then merges after the exit. So can I use the left lane to go to the exit I want or do I have to use the right lane?

Essentially, if I use the right lane I'll be stuck with a majority wanting to take the right turn (4th exit). Traffic flies around the corner even though there's a 20mph limit, so it takes absolutely ages to get out, particularly for nervous drivers. It can easily be a 5 minute difference on a bad day. Obviously I know the safe option is the right lane, but I may as well take a half mile detour to avoid it, so I'm interested in what is legal.

Related to that, say I was in the left lane and carried on past that 2nd exit, and someone from the right lane took the exit and went into the side of me - who's fault is it?

Thanks for any opinions!

The 3rd exit is more like 1 o'clock on that sign. You should be in the right hand lane. I just followed it around on streetview and the right hand lane it is

Its right hand lane. The lines on the road tell you that the left lane is for the 2 exits. The lane before the merge is for the cars coming from the exit you pass. The arrow tells you that this lane is only for the left turn. For you anyway.

Thanks both. Btw, I hadn't noticed it before, but there's a left turn only lane on the joining road I pass before exit 2, with only buses allowed to continue, which explains the two sets of markers for the lane. They mustve added the sign since I last joined from there. Ah well, shall stick to my detour for commuting.
