Does anyone know why the majority of roundabouts do not use road markings like this? (the way the inside lane is moved into the centre to make sure you can exit correctly).

What I mean, is that if you follow a lane round, the way the markings are means that you are naturally taken to where you need to be. Rather than being forced to change lanes if going all the way around.

I know that most of us know how to use roundabouts, but I'm sure we've all encountered people who get confused and end up thinking you're cutting them up, etc etc. I can't help but feel if all roundabouts were like this it would be easier for everyone.

Thoughts?

Yep would be useful on other junctions as well when the road splits. One near me always causes problems because the arrows are not too obvious, so marks like this would help there too.

Weird, I was having this exact same thought last night oin my way to work!

I agree, however, it still doesn't stop the people who really should not be on the road from being idiots.

Sad I know but thats the roundabout just before polegate is it not? too observant if it is!

I agree though, any thinking should be removed from the average road user and replaced with lines to follow coupled with basic judgements about when and if to pull out!

In my experience, those sort of roundabouts seem to confuse people even more than normal roundabouts.

The concept of having lanes that 'move' as you go around just confuses the hell out of people and they just drive wherever they want anyway IME

I hate traffic lights on roundabouts. If the council/government decide that lights are needed then they need to change the layout to an interchange. Traffic lights on roundabouts cause accidents.

There is one busy main roundabout called the "Golden valley" roundabout I have to use to get on the Motorway, it's recently been resurfaced and these lines have been painted on..
Yet I still get stuck behind morons sat at the junction not pulling out when a stream of cars are going round on the inside two lanes quite happily.
When the lane we are sat in merges nicely with the first exit if YOU'D ONLY PULL OUT arrghh..

90% of drivers in lane A exit the first junction
99% of the drivers in lane B want to take the 2nd exit
90% of the drivers in lane C want to go round to the 3rd exit.

So why am I stuck behind some numb nuts at position D who wont pull out into an empty lane.
The amount of footage I have on my car cam of me going off on one toward the person in front, I think if I uploaded it I be done for road rage!

I don't think its confusion, its a simple case of not looking where they are going, or where they want to go as a result of their complete inabaility to control a vehicle at the same time as actually thinking ahead. I think that around half of the population does not even look at the road when driving. I really believe that driving should be a priviliedge, not a right as it is now.

Most of the roundabouts in Newport comprise of 3 lanes entering/exiting but only 2 lanes on the actual roundabout. Work that one out.

everyday I commute to Tamworth for work, There is a large roundabout which links the m42 to the A5.

Everyday there is always someone in the wrong lane. despite four foot tall writing 3 times before the roundabout telling a motorist which lane is which and a sign bigger than your mum they still get in the wrong lane and cause accidents!

Really fed up of it! I just cant help but feel like regardless of how well developed our road network is, without simple common sense and some pretty standard observations people will always be in the wrong lane or annoy other motorists with there ignorance :(

The markings you're talking about ss are spiral markings and are generally being introduced more and more when larger (generally signalised) roundabouts are resurfaced.

SPIRAL! That would have made it so much easier to explain if I'd used that word, haha! Thanks :)

Good to hear they're being introduced more.
