dear ocuk motors,

after seeing multiple near misses at this roundabout I ask all of you what would you do.

roundabout1_zpslraufzop.png

on my way home from work i'm heading south on the A4074. coming up to the roundabout there are 2 lanes and sign.
left lane = straight and left
right lane = going right

which lane do you stay in to keep going south on the A4074?

and the 2nd roundabout another favourite

coming from the south west.
left hand lane has straight and left
right hand land has straight and right.

once you get onto the roundabout there are 3lanes. surely the entry left hand lane now only has the left lane and the entry right lane now has the middle and right lane?

First roundabout - Right hand lane.

Second - left or right, but I'd probably take the left and stay in the left (but I just passed on Monday so in my head, I should always stay in the slow lane :-P)

probably should expand my description. there are 2 exits which are hidden.
look north east the 2 white cars are taking exit 2 and 3. i'm taking exit 4

my view:

left hand lane for exit 1 and left lane on the round about for exit 2.
right lane, for middle lane on the roundabout for exit 3 & 4, also right lane on the round about for exit 4 (dual carriage) + exit 5 (full u-turn)

I've seen all kinds of people taking any lane taking any exit. nightmare :(

Depends on the signage before the roundabout. For example:
roundabouts.jpg

The thicker exit indicates straight ahead so anything before and including the the thicker exit is the left lane. Then the right lane for the other two exits.

Looking on street view for your top roundabout (however is not the clearest picture) Henley is the thick exit so thats the left lane then reading, goring, didcot is the right hand land.

But not everyone looks at the signs and just makes it up as they get to the roundabout. I mean we've got ones with great big arrows on the floor and people still can't follow them so you just have to aware that people don't know what they're doing.

Will check this on the way home.
I always use the left hand lane

i'm fine using the 2nd round about but it seems most people aren't :p
but it's clearly signed.

it's only the first one i'm unsure off.

That first one is a bit tricky, I used to have one like that on my way home. I'd have a look at the general traffic flow, if people in the left typically go left at the first 2 exits then you want to be in the right one and just be really careful as you take the exit. If most people are going the same way as you then just be patient and when coming off be extra careful on your right for anyone cutting. @pooker makes a good point and generally I'd say stay left, but if you take that every day you should be able to get a feel for what is safer (not what's faster!)

It is a bit an arkward one, that's why I asked, I usually take the left hand lane.
But I've seen multiple times where people don't look out and had near misses when both lanes take the same exit.

2nd roundabout is The Oracle (fun times!) and youre going out towards Cemetry Junction, right?
IIRC left lane is for both Oracle parking (one near the Turtle and also Riverside)
Next lane is for Queens Road.
Therefore I'd go for the right lane as everyone should be out the way

First roundabout - right lane as its after 1200 if the roundabout was a clock. Sure that was what I was taught.

God bless Reading!!

edit: misread the arrows. post adjusted!

no i'm going up london street towards chav town (whitley :D ) to go towards uni and then lower earley (where i live) if i was going towards cemetery junction i'd avoid this round about and go down the road where panthro got dinged for speeding. :p
like i've said before i'm fine driving on the oracle roundabout but people seem to do random things on there, because they don't know where they want to

Sorry its been a while! Avoid driving into Reading as its £6.10 return on the train and Oracle car parking is like £2 for one hour! PLus its a complete ball-ache!
Also, why not go through Shinfield and/or around Black Boy to Lower Earley??

i'm coming from caversham and found going past the oracle is usually quicker than using the IDR :(
