Router - £250

A guest network can still be secured. The important thing about a guest network is that it only has access to the Internet and not local resources.

Running an unsecured guest network would be asking for trouble.

Is the ASUS RT-AC87U still one of the better WiFi AP's to go for? Mostly for a house with a few tablets, 3 Chromecastst and mobile phones etc.

I'm using a standard sky all in one router, and a spare Belkin router as a "Downstairs" wireless access point at the moment. They don't do an OK job, but I wouldn't mind something that combines the 2 and does a better job at at, as often 4G on my phone is faster than the WiFI. - The connection is on SKY Fibre which is great on my wired machines!

I'm on Sky also, I went with an AC56U (same CPU as the AC68U but slower wifi), added a BTO fiber modem and intended to then add two Ubiquiti Unifi AP's for faster/better wifi. As it turned out the wifi from the AC56U was significantly better than the SR102 Sky Hub so I've held off on the AP's so far. A one box solution may look cute, but in terms of functionality and upgrade potential separate units work better.
