Hi all

our current router seems to be dying, it doesnt like to let devices (mostly our ipads atm) connect to it.

so im thinking that we should probably get a new one. we're using a thompson speedtouch at the moment that was provided with the internet connectoin a number of years ago.

i do a lot of online gaming, fps's and mmo's. we also stream movies via netflix and have laptops ipads etc that we connect to wirelessly.

our ISP is AOL, could anyone recommend a good router for our usage? i started looking at reviews but for every good one i could find there was one saying that they dropped connection every day and needed to restart so any first hand experiance would really be appreciated

thanks in advance.

Billion 7800N.

Excuse me hijacking your thread.

KIA: Had a BT engineer here for nearly three hours today, finally got a partial 'Lift & Shift' today.:)
Ping gone from 60ms down to 10ms -15ms, so, I'm well pleased so far with things.

Got a 2750n, good speed, etc, & running latest firmware v1.5.1,but it seem it's being held back in performance compared to BT modem & HH.

Tempted to sell the 2750n,& use BT modem with a Billion 7800N, good or bad idea?

What would you do, maybe I should give it a few days for the line to settle down a bit before deciding.

Have you compared the sync speeds? What do you mean by performance?

Hi Nightglow,
I have the Billion 7800N and BT VDSL2 modem and it works superb, I have just added a Netgear Prosafe 8 port GIGABIT switch to give me added funcionality so I could add LAN cables for the upstairs room for my son wireless was OK for surfing but just could not cut the mustard for gaming which he does a lot of. But I get 37+Mb Down and 8-9Mb upload via LAN and 23/8 on wireless.

I am looking at upgrading the service to the 80/20 unlimited for an extra £5+VAT per month which as its also used for my business is handy.

Cheers.

I have a Linksy gigabit switch (SRW2016 I think), in the attic feeding all the rooms upstairs, living room & kitchen downstairs plus two printers & two sky boxes.
At present the BT modem, HH3 is in my den, with a single feed from it going straight up to the attic.

HH3 is useless for wireless, whereas 2750n has a superb signal & easily reaches the bottom of the garden.
Just trying to squeeze the maximum out of my connection, & unsure the best way to go about it.
Wondered if the Billion 7800n was a better option.
