Hi,

I have a belkin F5D8236-4 V3 and I was wondering if I should get an alternative firmware because atm I'm not happy with the performance of this router. Also if I should get one which one should I get for example tomato, Dd Wrt ect.

Many Thanks

Yes/No. On that thing you're only option is dd-wrt.

DD-wrt was built to add as many features as possible to routers. Tomato was built to provide a fast, clean & simple ui with good qos although with the k26 builds it's adding quite a lot of dd-wrts features.

If you had the option I'd say try both, although for the average user just wanting good qos tomato would almost certainly be the default choice if possible. Either would be better that the stock fw :P

Interesting you mention the QoS, as I've never gotten DD-WRT's QoS to work properly. Might give Tomato a go, just for curiosity's sake.
