Good Day All.

I am looking for some advice regarding my rounter and my line speed.

I have been with IDNET for quite some time now, and found there service ok, but alittle bit over priced.

When I 1st started with there service my router used to connect around 14000 Kbps, and using speedtest.net I would get a download of 1.2-1.3mbps, and an upload of around 1.0mbps.

A few months back IDNET had some big problems and there system(s) failed twice within a few weeks of each other.

Since then I have noted that I connect at a much slower speed, only around 7000kbps.

Here are some details from my Linksys (Cisco) WAG160N Router.

--- DSL Information ---
DSL Driver Version: AnnexA version - A2pB022g.d20e
DSL VPI/VCI: 0/38
DSL Status: ShowtimeRetrain Reason: 8000
DSL Mode: ADSL2+
DSL Channel: FAST
DSL Upstream Rate: 1199 Kbps
DSL Downstream Rate: 7263 Kbps

Down up
DSL Noise Margin: 14.9 dB 6.2 dB
DSL Attenuation: 31.0 dB 14.4 dB
DSL Transmit Power: 0.0 dBm 12.7 dBm

In my house we only have the master bt socket, there is no extension boxes, The microfilter is pluged into the master socket, where only one cordless phone is connected, and a screened 5M RJ11 cable to my router.

I have tried changing the microfilter, and even pluging the microfilter into the BT test socket, but the connection speed is still around the same.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks for your time.

Best Regards.

Your 14.9 dB Noise margin suggests you have plenty of scope for a higher speed connection, although while saying that I'm not sure what DSL Transmit Power is and whether 0.0 dBm is relevant to anything.

I'd say that IDNet have put you on a lower speed profile for some reason.

An attenuation of 31 dB is consistent with a connection of around 14000Kbps.

Just had a quick look on google earth and from that my house is 0.78Mile (1.26km) away from the local BT exchange (line of sight), but have no idea what route my phone line takes.

What do you think I should say to IDNET, as each time I contact them, they ask me to do the same things over and over.
