Router and Mesh setup?

Hey guys,

My default EE router died on me and I have a new Tp-Link one coming tomorrow along with a 3 Tp-Link Deco Mesh kit.

Can someone recommend how to set this up?

I have a network cable hardwired through the house to my man cave but for access in the bedroom, kitchen and upstairs etc..

Do I use the Ethernet cable direct to the router and use the 3 mesh for access points? Or do I have a Ethernet cable from router, to one mesh unit and then access point the other 2?

Really not sure, oh and they are Deco S4 models.

Cheers!

First you need to figure out what your actual goals are. Your post makes it seem like you went from a single EE router to 4 units total (a TP Link router plus 3 access points which is probably ridiculously overkill). Some thoughts:

1: What did the EE router not do that you now want to do? Reminder that the EE Smart Hub Plus is Wifi 6 and the Deco S4 is Wifi 5 so it could actually be a downgrade in speed.
2: The Tp-Link router is superfluous. The Deco units already have routing capability: i.e. the Deco would replace the EE router leaving you with 2 additional access points.

I used the router along with 3 Eero 6 units.

The router was ok but packed in, apparently a bad unit for reliability so that I would change up the router. Speed not much of an issue as the best I can get atm is 70mb/s

Oh really, I was not aware I could use it as a router.

As you have ethernet ports in your home, you are aiming for a wired backhaul setup:

I run the XE75 Pro kit using a wireless backhaul, my PC can still download at Virgin Media’s 1GB, it has saved me from running a cable across the living room from my modem/router to my PC.

well.. turned out to be a 5 minute job to connect the router..

keeping my Eero mesh and sending back the Tp-Link Deco's.
