I'm currently using an ethernet router with built in modem for ADSL access. Nice and easy to configure.
I've spotted the shiny new Linksys WRT160NL and am quite tempted to get it.
So, the question is: what settings do I use on my modem/router to allow the linksys to deal with everything and have a face on the Internet?
The modem can do: 1483 Bridging, PPPoA (current option), 1483 Routing, PPPoE, IP over 1483 Bridged.
I can also turn the NAT on/off and firewall on/off.
PPPoA and PPPoE are the only ones that allow username/password to be entered.
I've done this several times before for work with 2 or more static IPs assigned by ISP, where I give one to the modem (firewall and NAT off), and one to the network security box. I can then set up port forwarding and VPN termination on the security box.
I can't get my head around doing it on a dynamic IP at home though. Do both devices share an IP?
Any pointers?
Cheers.
