Router and steam?

Since connecting to the internet using a router (wired) things have been ok but I am having problems with Steam.
I am using a BT1800HG on talktalk broadband.
When I go to refresh the servers in steam only about 350 show up and lowest latency (Ping) I get is around 60 (used to be around 19 onwards). My router is set-up with dmz enabled and all traffic allowed, MTU 1400 . Any ideas why this is so?
P.S.
PPPoA
0,38 vc-mux etc.

Surfing internet is fine but noticed that my norton is not updating and downloads on the Xbox 360 take a very long time.

Why have you got a DMZ enabled? Do you even know what a DMZ is for?

Nice way for you to be open to attack anyway.

This is the first time I have used a router and i am not sure what DMZ enabled means apart from having all ports open to my PC. This should be no problem as my PC is protected by its own firewalls e.t.c. If this is not the case and I am doing something very silly your advice would be most grateful.

My PC used to be connected to the net via a PCI ADSL modem (non USB) and never had any problems and steam performance was fantastic. Now I cant get servers with a ping of under 60. Is this due to the router ? can you get a lower ping using a router (if everything was running perfectly)?
