router as a wireless access point

I have a Linksys Wireless B router that seems to have a problem with the router part - it stops responding to ping after 2 minutes of use then I have to reboot the router, 2 minutes later it happens again.

I want to use it as a wireless access point and use my machine as a router. I'm currently using my PC with 2 network cards and a crossover cable to another PC, so windows ICS is working fine.

I connected the router to the 2nd network card, logged into it and disabled DHCP. This is where I get stuck. I'm using static IPs for all machines:

My machine:
network card 1 (connected directly to internet): obtained from ISP
network card 2 (connected to router): 192.168.1.2

router IP: 192.168.1.1

laptop IP: 192.168.1.3 and I've tried with gateway set to 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2.

I cannot get the laptop to see the router. I get "limited connectivity" I think.

Am I missing something? There is very little info on this setup on the internet.

Thanks for the reply Allen. I can now connect to the router from my laptop using the wireless connection and I can also transfer files between my computers (at approx 300k/s) but I can't connect to the internet on my laptop.

I'm using the same setup as before but with (as you correctly said) 192.168.1.2 as the gateway. The DNS server was already set to the same IP as the gateway.

Actually as I am typing this it seems that the router is faulty. I had a ping -t going and it was respoding for 3 minutes but now it just says "request timed out". Time to chuck it in the bin.

I just gave it one more try. I disabled ICS then re-enabled it and it worked! I can now access the internet from my laptop and I've had a ping -t running on the router for over an hour . I'm never going to switch it off now!
