ok so ive got virgin national (adsl) and ports all over the house. However the wireless strength isn't so great and can't penetrate the whole flat.

so I have the router based in the office, but the wireless doesn't travel anywhere, however in the living room most the flat gets wireless (?!?!?!), and the consoles can have a wired connection as well then. due to this i thought id stick my old router in the office and wirelessly bridge it, then connect my pc via Ethernet.

However reading up seems the bridge has to be via Ethernet cable? I tried turning on wireless repeater mode on my spare router but no connection was passed through the Ethernet to my pc.

How do I go around this, or what do I need if my hardware isn't suitable? What would be the most viable options? Would it be worth getting home plugs? Would I get the same connection speed via a home plug than directly to the router on my pc?

Homeplugs would work fine. Have you tried a different wireless channel? You can get wireless scanners that tell you what other signals are around, try and pick 1, 6 or 11, whichever has the least other signals around.
