Router cannot contact DHCP server

Hi all,

Friend has his cable router connected to his Blueyonder cable modem and it doesnt work. Gets an error from the router saying the DHCP server timed out.

Plugging the cable modem directly into the PC works fine.

Sorry for the vague information, it's all I've got - any suggestions?

Usual fix is to power off/on the cable modem with the router connected.

Yup, switch the modem off and back on, wait for the lights to settle down then hook up the router.

some cable modems like mine (old 3com one) have a little pin hole that you have to hold a pin in, disconnect the power, then reconnect and remove the pin after 3 seconds. This will force the modem to release its IP address and get a new one
