router dying ? :(

for a while now my router has been sending out my main wireless signal which i connect to but also a signal called default ,sometimes when i connect to my wireless on my ipod touch or laptop my router will only let me connect to the signal called default and i have to unplug both my router and modem for 30 seconds and then plug them in again so that i can connect to the internet thanks in advance for any help

the router itself is a linksys wrt54g which i have a virgin media modem connected to it and the router is connected to desktop, everyday at least once my router will stop working all the lights on my modem stay on but i cannot get any connection on any of my computers or ipods etc and i have to unplug both the router and modem for 30seconds to get it to work again
