router firmware update

Ive just done an auto update check for my NetGear DGN2200 router and its found a new firmware.
If I update the firmware is it likely to loose all my settings forcing me to input them all again ?
Also is it reccomended to update router firmwares or leave it if you have no issues with current firmware ?

You shouldn't lose settings, but you ought to be able to back them up from the management page, which is advisable to do first just in case.

Keeping router firmware up to date is good practice as it'll patch security holes and sometimes bring in support for new features.
But for a bog standard home setup, the "not broke; don't fix" doesn't usually do any harm.
