I have a desktop pc connected to a 10b virgin modem,
I have a sony vaio laptop with wirelss,
what router do i need or what do you reccomend that is not a lot of problems for someone that has never used or set one up before.
thanks

I currently have a D-Link DIR-635 on Virgin Cable. It's linked up to a few PC's, a Mac, Wii, Xbox360, PS3, iPhones. No problems at all.

The DIR-615 would do you fine unless want the QoS engine in the 635 and above.

Had a few Linksys in the past and while they do work
- the wireless was weak on some of them
- the port rules and other settings randomly got erased on early models
- and the graphical interface is poor

The best Linksys is the open source model with the tomato firmware but that's a bit hard for someone new to this lark.

Yeah, I've got the Linksys WRT54GL

and it's working flawlessly. I have mine wired though.

Setting up Tomato firmware wasn't that difficult and I had no knowledge about it prior to loading it up. :)

They've only been doing the Netgear routers for a year or so, free for new 10mb/20mb customers, £40 otherwise. Most customers don't have one.

If you can get one for free then fair enough, it'll probably do the job. But if you're having to fork out there are better routers for the same money, i.e. the WRT54GL.

thankyou everybody,i think i will go with the WRT54GL. as it seems to have good user reviews on OC.
cheers

Excellent choice. Don't know much about other routers for cable but the WRT54GL has worked flawlessly for me and a few people i've recommended and installed it for.
