Router gives wrong IP to Wireless stuff

Holy mother of mess...

Something in that is acting as a DHCP server, just turn it all off and test, test and more test. Some home plugs also have DHCP servers in.

What brand and model number are all of the HomePlugs? I know some of the more expensive Devolo ones can have advanced features that could possibly cause DHCP conflicts.

Unless you're deliberately using DHCP reservations (via the MAC address) there's no guarantee that you'll get the same device IPs.

With the Powerline adapters take the simple step of using your own encryption keys. If you are cross connecting with another local Powerline network it'll fix it.

Im not deliberately doing it myslef, but the router is clearly defaulting to do this yes.

Personally, I'd be ditching all the homeplugs and running ethernet to each device. Zero power usage and 100% speed with zero downtime.

I'd also use one central switch instead of multiple small switches.

I'm not a fan of using routers in non-router mode. You can get some very odd behavior from them, especially cheaper models.

-Also, the hallway wifi repeater, what make is this? How is it configured? does it have a DHCP server?

Yes, Ethernet to each is a preferable option, but this is a simpler and easier option that has worked perfectly up until just the other week.

One Central Switch - Again, this will also then mean a load of cables coming from it, to each PC... Its just not plausible in the home.

No I agree with the use of the router as a Switch, but its simply a case of needs over money. Again, its been flawless until just recently.

The Repeater is NOT BEING USED.
It DOES however have a DHCP mode, but asI said, its not in use, and it is NOT connected either.

Personally I would be tempted to have only one home plug per room, connected to a small switch instead of multiple powerlines, and try use a dedicated cable if possible.

Another note, have you tried entering 192.168.0.1 in the browser to see if it takes to you a device web page? Or even pinging it?

Yes one homeplug per room.
My bedroom only has the Media PC running now. I have asked the missus to unplg the Apple one. Its not been used for a long time, but it has still been plugged in, so its now out.

The Boys room - Yes, this has the two in there and I may change that, but to be honest, I might just remove them entirely and put the gits on Wireless.

Entering an IP
Yes, I have tried but the page does nothing. it simply tries to connect and then gives up. There is no gateway as such on ajything but 1.1 and thats been the ASUS

What brand and model number are all of the HomePlugs? I know some of the more expensive Devolo ones can have advanced features that could possibly cause DHCP conflicts.

Hell, ok, well they are a mixed bunch. Some are 200MB and some are 500 but they are all compatible.

They are a mixture of TPLINK ( 2 different models all 200MB ) and also DLINK ( the 500MB ones )

I was in the process of upgrading them to 500 cos 500MB ones are so cheap now, but in truth, the 200mb ones are just as good... Its only when I copy a load of stuff or a massive load of data over than I could need the 500MB ones and every time I do, I just dump it/them onto a USB drive anyway, so I might just stick with teh 200MB ones cos they are all TPLINK and there will be less chance of any issues maybe?

Well, completely removed all homehubs now, only have the SKY Modem on, and after completely uninstalling any and all wireless capabilities on all devices, it does seem to be working.
A days test showed me that all devices including Wireless, were given working IPs
I have fully reset the ASUS and connected that back up instead of the SKY one and after re-entering the login info, it connected back up and again, that too, is now giving all wireless devs, a normal sensible number again.

So far, is so good.

I do not know if there is anything in particular that has done this, and what I am going to do, is restore the things like the HomePlugs back on, one by one, until they either start to go silly again, or they get to all of them in, but what I will do, is take my time and give it at least a day of testing between each one, to try to make sure.

Thansk for the help everyone... Its very much appreciated, so thank you.

Oh god, I rememebr that signature.

Key areas? LOL

My wife hasnt touched my "Key areas" for months!

Anyway, you may be on to something there! I was thinking of having one on every socket, what do you think?
