Router Help Please - Slow Newsleecher

Hi,

I used to use a server as a gateway to the net and have other PC's networked via a switch.

Wanting to save power as I no longer use the server I decided to buy a router. The router is a Belkin N1 Wireless Router

I have two PC's plugged into the ethernet ports and a laptop working on the wireless. Everything net wise is working fine with no problems.

Heres the problem:

When I run Newsleecher I can't download any faster than 80-120 KBPS.

I went into the router control panel and disabled the firewall as a test which made no difference. I then seen settings for virtual servers which has a list of different games and programs.

I selected News Server (NNTP) and put in the IP address of the PC and saved the changes. This still made no difference to Newsleecher.

I done a speed test on the net to see if it wasn't just Newsleecher and I am downloading at 500-1000 KBPS yet Newsleecher still only gives 80-120 KBPS

I changed my network back to it's original config with the server as gateway just to make sure it wasn't the news servers being slow. Straight away I was getting 1.03 MB/s no problem at all.

So the problem seems to be within the router but I cannot see how to get Newsleecher at full speed.

Any ideas or advice is appreciated.

Thanks for your help.

what server are u downloading from?

how many connections have u got it set to? mine was slow until i set it to 99 now I get 1.2mb/s all the time.

Hi,

Thanks for your help.

I use Newshosting and I tried changing the connections but it was still slow.

It doesn't seem to be anything to do with Newshosting as I get full speed when I take the router out and use a normal switch.

I tried changing some settings on the router and it then randomly restarted and now no longer works and I can't get into the config page anymore.

I will be sending it back and look at a different make.

Thanks for your help.

After looking at the Newshosting website I seen that they offer connection through ports: 119, 23, 25, 80, 3128, 7000, 8000 and 9000.

I didn't see this the other day before the router packed up. When the router was working it was very good on the net as a wired network and also good on wireless.

The only problem was with Newsleecher but it must be the port settings for Newshosting and not Newsleecher itself.

For these reasons I am going to get a replacement router and try the other ports and see what happens.

Websites work on port 80 so hopefully Newsleecher/Newhosting can be set to download from port 80 which should be fine as the router worked fine on websites.
