Router in master socket?

I've recently been getting a lot of problems with my IP Profile fluctuating violently over the past few months, worst case scenario it being set to a mere 135k. I always appear to have interleaving on, and my line attenuation is in the 55-60db range (2km ACF to exchange).

Then it got me thinking; My router isn't directly connected to my master socket, and I'm fairly confident the internal wiring in my house isn't superb, perhaps this could be the cause of the problem? Another problem is, I don't have any LAN calbing running through my house either (main socket downstairs, bedroom upstairs), so would using these "Powerline" things be any good use? Assuming my router not being in my master socket is a problem in itself?

Thanks,
Alex

It's certainly worth testing the performance with the router in the master socket. In fact, I would say it was the standard fault-finding procedure.
The Powerline range seems to have a good reputation here although I haven't tried them myself yet.

How long would you recommend I left it in for, before I decided the line had settled?

24 hours is more than enough - the line won't "settle" (it never does), but the standard variation you see every day should show if there's a difference.
