Hi,

Having some problems with 2 different routers exhibiting almost the same problems.

The first router is a free supplied router from O2 (Thomson something or other) which connects at around 9MB but the wired connection to the router seems unstable and seems to drop every few hours before resolving itself within approx. 5 mins. During this time the wireless functionality remains unaffected.

The second router is a Netgear DG834GT which we have owned for a few years. It connects at a much faster 13MB but the wired connections to the router still drop. However they only seem to drop sometime between 11pm and 6am :\ Again wireless functionality remains unaffected....

The obvious route seems to be to replace it with something else but the question is what?

Secondly what could be causing such an issue with 2 different routers?

Thanks :)

Done that already, sorry should have said :(

Oh should say the only way to restore wired connectivity with teh Netgear is to unplug the power and give it a few seconds before powering back up again.

in reality anything that is 'suppied free' is going to be a pile of poo. Just go out and buy branded equiptment :)

you have a faulty network card or the cat has chewed 95% of the way thru your network cable...

try a different network cable, if its not that it must be the network card...

All the AV programs with firewalls can trash your connection, however I have never seen it cause intermitant issues....
