Hey there,

I'm looking for a managed switch or router to use for LAN Gaming Events with no more than 15 people / 30 devices. WAN Connection is only around 18 Mbps / 4 Mbps.

I have a layer 2 switch so no need to worry about huge amounts of ports.

- Ability to limit bandwidth (per device / IP)
and/or
- Real time bandwidth usage (per device / IP)

Any recommendations or first hand experience with something that'll handle this?
I've had the ASUS N66U and the bandwidth limiter simply didn't work.

I could go the pfsense route but rather just have a quick plug n play out-of-the-box solution if I'm honest.

Something MikroTik setup to use PCQ type connections would do what you want but it's not "out-of-the-box". You'd need to fettle a bit to get it right at which point you may as well have used pfsense if you're more comfortable with that.
If it's LAN gaming then why do you need to be concerned over WAN usage? Isn't all the traffic on the LAN?

I've not used Pfsense before, have just quickly installed it and could probably get where I want with it, I just figured a simple bandwidth limit would do the job so wouldn't need 90% of what else Pfsense can do.

There'd still be a few online multiplayer games played.

If your planning on quite a few users should look into Steamcache so when everyone tries downloading games or updating them they come from a sever on a LAN rather than using all the WAN bandwidth.
