Router, or Pipex?

I'm having problems with my Belkin wireless router. Earlier today and last night it wasn't holding a connection; it would dial up okay, but drop the connection after five or ten minutes, but it would then reconnect fine. Now it's not managing to dial at all; it flashes to show it's trying to dial, but can't actually connect.

I've rebooted it several million times, restored the factory settings and started over, fiddled with my MTU, left it for a while in case it was overheating, etc., but I don't know of anything I can do to determine whether it's my router or my ISP, Pipex. I do have an older, non-wireless router, but in a stroke of exceptional luck I've lost the power pack for it, so I can't test and see.

Is there anything else I can do? Is Pipex known to be having problems? I assume it's not my exchange/line because I checked with my next door neighbour and their connection is fine, but I have no idea about these things really! Any ideas, or is it just likely that my router has crapped itself?

I'm not saying the problem is your router, but my dad had this same model and it would loose connection regulary, although it also worked fine for years before. I did a little research online and discovered this was a common problem, and seemed to be related to overheating. I tried another router (a KCorp), and there was no problem with maintaining a connection. I rang Belkin and they sorted a RMA, and it was replaced promptly (and they payed for shipping in both directions, which impressed me). All this was only a few weeks ago. If I can find the links I found reporting this problem I will post them (I cant find them at the moment).

The router was replaced with the same model, but a later revision. All seems well at the moment.

Btw, the router has a lifetime warranty.

Obviously, trying another router would be a smart move, if you can get your hands on one.

I'm willing to bet it's the router, it seems the more likely option by far! I'll get on to them tomorrow I guess, and in the meantime ask my neighbour if I can use their wifi I suppose. Thanks :)

You're welcome, I hope you get it sorted out.

Ohh, support asked me to upgrade the firmware on the first call to support, but after checking it I found it already had the latest firmware. So you may want to check out firmware versioning to speed up the RMA process with support.

Maybe your neighbour can let you try out their router on your connection? (perhaps that's what you were saying in your post above, I wasn't sure)

I only read the first line, its nearly always the Belkin router!

I cant believe a big company like Belkin could mess up so badly, I remember when they used to be considered fairly reasonable.
