Router or Switch

Hi,

I'm not sure whether I need a router or a switch.

I have Virgin cable 10mb and I want to have two PCs access the connection.

I'd like it to be set up such that if only one PC is in use then that PC can use the full 10mb rather than have access to only 5mb if the connection was split.

The two I was looking at are these:

Edimax ES-3205P 5-Port Ethernet Switch

TP-LINK M699 DSL Wired 4 Port Cable/DSL Router



Any advice greatly appreciated.

You need a router although I'm not sure if the one you've linked is any good, it certainly seems a bit cheap and doesn't support wireless.

The connection doesn't get split, it gets shared so the full bandwidth is available to either machine if the other isn't doing anything.

Router. Get a well known brand.

The Dlink 600 to 800 series all work fine on Virgin.
