router problems

Have you put in your ADSL user/pass into the router? Check to see that the ADSL is actually connecting properly. If it is then try connecting with a cable to the router to begin with to make sure that side is fine before going further with the wireless.

ok.. its connected hardlined to the pc, and wireless to my dads laptop.

i set it up using the setup on the netgear disk whihc wouldnt work before for some reason

question is, do i have to do that again when i unplag it and take it back downstairs?

In theory it should be fine once up and running. I would always suggest not using any manfacturer software when it comes to wireless - install only the device manually. E.g. plug it in, when it says 'found new hardware', point it to the netgear cd to install the driver, then use Windows wireless to connect up to the network. I have had problems with 3rd party software as it takes control away from Windows and can cause problems.

well, i thinm ive got it sorted.. using windows to controll it too, but it seems to kick me and not find the network now and again.. will keep my eye on things...
