Hi all,

Came home today to find my main PC, connected via cable to my router, can no longer access the internet or, it seems, the router. I've tried pinging the router and various web addresses with no luck. The PC upstairs which is connected wirelessly is working fine.
I've tried using different network ports on both the router and PC - each time the 'connected' light lights up on the router but the PC remains stubborn. The router can see the PC in the DHCP clients list (it even gave it a new IP when I changed network ports, which the PC acknowledges in ipconfig).

Any thoughts? I can't think of anything changed since last night, when it was working fine.

Cheers,

Md

did you say you couldn't ping the router from said pc??

you haven't turned on 'don't reply to ping' on the router have you?

(just to check) you are pinging the right address for the router i take it?

what is your default gateway as is listed in ipconfig?

any firewalls at all?

Tried setting the IP address, default gateway, subnet mask and dns ip's manually on your PC instead of using DHCP?

Otherwise I assume you have tried the obvious stuff like restarting the router and pc?

Can't ping the router from the problem PC but can ping it from the upstairs PC (using the same address). The default gateway on both machines is 192.168.0.1.

Just tried setting everything manually, didn't get anywhere (assuming I'm doing it right - going into TCP/IP settings for the relevant LAN connection, setting things to manual and filling in the boxes). Yup, have tried turning off the router and PC a number of times.
Confused!
