Just received my shiny new Asus RT-N66U in the post, only to realise it needs an rj45 cable and I'm using adsl broadband and therefore have an rj11 dsl wire coming out of the wall

Needless to say I'm disappointed and quite angry, is there anything I can do?!

Return it back to the shop... pretty much all you can do, unless you want to start playing with daisy chaining routers

This,
Its a Router not a Router with a modem built in, you will need something with a modem built into it to get the internet from "the wall" to your router, You could pick up a cheap one and daisy chain if you wanted but it can get messy with multiple routers in a network.

I've just boxed it back up and slung it in the cupboard waiting for fibre, shame

Why? It's an excellent router, might as well use it at least as the access point or a repeater?

However, if you can get a refund on it, you might as well, and just buy another N66U when fibre becomes available. They're cheap at the moment however they may come down in price again when the AC87U comes out (that said, is the £10 or whatever off worth it?).

Not worth the hassle of rma and buying a new one later

And also I don't want to routers and more cables messing up a corner of the kitchen so I'll stick with my Belkin until fibre is available

Who are you angry at? Did the seller give you incorrect product information? Or can you not read a spec' sheet? :p

You could send the N66U back and order a N55 which is a DSL router. Asus have released a firmware for it which lets you convert one of the Ethernet ports to a WAN port for FTTC.
