Hello all

I have recently installed a Linksys wired ADSL router and I've had nothing but trouble. Since about 2001 I've been using a PCI ADSL Accessrunner Conexant modem which only has 32-bit drivers so it had to go.
The router syncs better than the old modem but thats it.
It produces tonnes of heat, when it goes OOS it loses the connection with the ISP instantly, it resets itself randomly when turned off and worst of all I now have trouble playing my favourite game online.

What I don't understand is why all these "routers" have appeared. I have no use whatsoever for firewalls, DCHP whatever that is, switches, port forwarding, NAT or any of that stuff. I just want a simple modem that doesn't block any connections.
How can I turn the Linksys AG241 V2 "router" into a modem like my old one ?

thanks for any help

Well, you can probably put it in bridging mode, or swap it for an ADSL modem (an external modem connected to your PC via a network cable) However you're exposing your PC directly to the net which I wouldn't advise for you.

Sounds like you had a bad experience with the router, send it back and get a different model

While you may not agree a propperly set up router is significantly more secure, stable and flexable than a modem. Have you looked at the port(s) you need to forward to play your favourite game online ? Also have you loaded the latest firmware or checked the logs to see what they indicate when you have an issue ? Also running without any form of firewall while directly connected to the internet is not reccomended at all.
