Hi

noticed my broadband (orange :(I KNOW) seems a bit slower today.

I have rebooted router and stats on it are
DownStream Connection Speed 4736 Kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 Kbps

Now if i go on speedtest / broadband speedchecker etc I get

Download speed: 0.953 mb/s
Upload Speed: 0.363 mb/s

This is using a wireless laptop.

Any ideas?

Just curious why router (Netgear N150) says one thing and the internet tests say another.

Thank you.

These are some stats from router.
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4736 Kbps 448 Kbps
Line Attenuation 53.2 dB 27.5 dB
Noise Margin 9.1 dB 20.0 dB

Done the test as you asked. This is my results?

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

Download Speed
0.76 Mbps

0 Mbps 1 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 0.76 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.2 Mbps-1 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1 Mbps

Your ip profile has been set to 1 Mbit by your ISP. This could be due to line instability or just for laughs. Contact your ISP.

just been on phone to them, believe it was a Indian call center and they said they will look into it for me.

So do you think suddenly for some reason they have put me on 1MB for some reason then?

could that be the problem.

For the IP profile to be set at 1Mb, you must have synced at 1152-1408Kbps. If you maintain the current sync speed for about three days, the IP profile should increase and your throughput will improve.

By the way, BT set the IP profile since they own and manage the line. Orange rent the line from BT.

This is true but you can't just ring up BT Wholesale.

As stated the line my recover the normal IP profile given time but phoning does no harm and may expedite things for you. From your stats you clearly have the capability to go faster, or at least you did at that moment.

How Bizarre. Seems ok this morning. A lot faster download speeds on speedtest / broadband speed checker and on speedtester bt i get the following now.

1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.

Download Speed
2.88 Mbps

0 Mbps 7.15 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2.88 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 3.5 Mbps

Either a glitch in the matrix, or Orange sorted it out after my telephone call or perhaps they slow it down from the hours 4pm-11pm ?

Who knows.
