So I need a new router for an ADSL2+ connection. I've currently got a Netgear DG834G. Would be nice to have one with QoS too.

Budget of max £40. Any suggestions?

Do you require Wireless N?

if not, Linksys WRT54G Open Source, and flash it with tomato firmware. Turns a £40 router into a £150+ router :)

i've been running one for nearly two years, no problems yet. In addition, it has a very advanced QoS configuration page, so you can tweak till your heart is content.

No requirement for N, G is fine.

How does that compare to the DG834GT with DGTeam, a lot of people seem to be recommending it at the moment but I haven't really seen any reasons.

I have never used a router flashed with DGTeam's firmware, but everybody speaks very highly about it. I guess its just up to your personal choice, but like i say, i've used tomato for 2 years and never had to reset it, plus there is a feature where you can increase the power to your wifi transmitter, which increases the range!

Don't the newest versions of 834 support ADSL2? I'm sure the ones we had in work did. Otherwise the openWRT or tomato firmwares are always worth a try, given that they are free if it doesn't work out you can always purchase something else.

I've got the v2 version, and whilst it should do I believe it is causing problems. Others have had problems on ADSL2+ too which were resolved after changing routers.

I have to purchase a Linksys WRT54G in order to use openWRT or tomato though, so that's an expense :)

If you're going to put Tomato on it, it's a WRT54GL you'd need rather than a WRT54G. You'd also need an ADSL modem to go with it.
