Hello all :)

Just looking to change the Eero 6 pro and Eero 6 that came with Youfibre.

I keep the two gaming computers wired for a better connection but thr Eero's aren't very good.

I use my work laptop upstairs and get a few drop outs every so often (no LAN port).

I don't need the best Asus router but looking for something decent with it's primary focus on being good for gaming.

Thank you :)

They are very basic. Not many options for blocking websites and don't seem very good when gaming. They can be hit and miss. Basically, not very consistent.

No LAN port so you just need good wifi solution that doesn't drop out etc? Most ISP supplied routers are quite crap, you could simply disable the built in wifi and hard wire into one of the LAN ports on it a wifi access point that's considerably better and that would sort the laptop etc out.

Unless you mean you also get drops with wired computers?

I have the Linksys Velop MX4200 (about £100 on Amazon) that came with my FTTP connection and so far it has been superb and better than my decade old Asus RT-AC68U, which at the time was top end. Wifi is very strong and wired has no problems either whether gaming or otherwise.

Blocking websites can be done with Pihole or Adguard.

How exactly is gaming not very good? Are you monitoring your WAN IP for latency at all?

Basic In settings I agree, but not had any problems with my pro 6's, I have 3 of them that I purchased to swap out the superhub (modem mode) from VM. And they have been rock solid for 2 years and performance is great. Its a top end mesh system so perhaps the ones supplied from Your ISP are faulty.

You mention a pro 6 and Eero 6, perhaps the latter is causing performance drops, I can't be sure as all mine are the pro 6 version.

That's all really helpful. Thank you all for your help.

I do get random drop outs when wired as well.

The blocking of websites as suggested is a good idea.

A USB to rj45 connector would be handy.

If Youfibre have disabled a lot of stuff, can it be flashed back to normal?

Thank you :)

Not that I know of, it appears that the firmware is the same for everyone but some routers can have owners assigned where they can change the configuration.
I have two 6E units and YouFibre's 6+, I think I will decommission the latter and buy another 6E as I want the features back too.
