At the moment we have a Netgear DG834G router, with 2 of the ports being used. One of these ports goes directly to my PC, the other to a family PC where there is a switch which my brother's PC also connects to.
However, since my brother is moving his computer to a different room in the house, we are going to have to buy a new Cat5e cable to link him up. His PC is going to be placed in a room near to mine, so I was considering linking him up to the switch in my room, rather than leading a much longer cable from the router.
However, if he was to be linked up to my switch, would this cause any adverse effects in terms of internet speed for us? Would the internet be faster if he was plugged directly into the router? We often both play online games at the same time, so it is important that the speed is the best it can be.
As always, all replies are greatly appreciated!!
