We call it good old faithful and it just seems to work all the time with hardly any issues.

But the only problem we have now is we are upgrading from a 8mb line to a 17+mb line and my partners laptop is now wireless N and the router isnt.

So i've been looking at the Billion 7800N as an upgrade, but i've been holding off because people say its amazing, but only for house with a poor line signal.

So what i'm wondering is, is there a top performing router out there?

Thanks.

If it has been old faithful as you say, an of course it still works. Why not just add an access point to it? Put it into a spare port and turn off the wireless on the GT?

Well first off I'm horrible with networking and networks.

And secondly I'd rather just have a router, less clutter and so on.

If I read that correctly then the only reason you're looking for a new router is because you want both to be N. The dg834gt will handle a 24mb line with ease and it is the best performing adsl one around. Mine has been relegated to modem duty for a couple years now and running every day since I bought it in 2001 :)

Unless you're shifting large files around the network there's little to no point in changing and if you did you'd still be best keeping the dg and using it as a modem paired with a cable router running something with tomato e.g. rt-n16 which would be cheaper, far more flexible and usable once fibre (eventually) shows up.
