Hi guys, im posting this as a last resort after spending hours looking for an answer online but getting nowhere.

I have a netgear wgr614v5 router which I have my xbox 360 and pc connected to.

I have tried every combination possible with port forwarding/port triggering and the xbox is still giving me STRICT NAT setting. It only changes to OPEN if I enable UPnP.

I am worried about this being a security threat. I have (and always have had) UPnP disabled on my windows xp pc and on the router, but what I want to know is, is it unsafe to enable it on the router even when I have it disabled on my pc.

Any advice is appreciated, Cheers :)

It will be safe. It only works on the LAN side (internal side) of your router.

If UPnP works then there is no reason why a manual configuration won't work either.

Please see the pics below. My xbox is assigned to 192.168.1.2

I can add TCP port 3074 but when I go to add UDP port 3074 it says it is already in use. I have tried with port forwarding too going through the settings with a fine toothcomb but it just wont work. If I had any hair i'd be pulling it out right now.

Cheers

Still comes up with STRICT NAT on xbox.

Set your Xbox to use a fixed IP address.
Turn off UPnP in the router.
Delete all of the services you already have for the Xbox.
Create new services for 3074 & 88 set to TCP/UDP or both.
Then use those services in port forwarding mode forwarded to the fixed IP address of your Xbox.
