I currently have a draytek 2820 connected to a satalite connection which 6 users have access to. People are using the net a lot more now for browsing/skype/youtube etc and thats fine now and then, however we keep going over our usage allowance and it's disturbingly expensive. Currently we get throttled to low speeds mid month for going over our allowance and have to pay extra too. (no other options than satalite as it's a remote location)
The draytek does a fine job, incredably stable, no reboot needed for months on end, has pretty good monitoring and qos, plus the vpn tools are handy too, however it doesn't allow me to specify transfer limits in MB on a user/IP basis. - It only allows you to specify throughput per IP.
I wish to be able to setup a quota per user. Maybe 2gb per user per month at full bandwidth, if they exceed this, then say restrict throughput to say for example dialup speeds, so things still still work for that person, but just at a lower speed.
However I do wish email to allways work at full speed. - so maybe specify that port 995 is not restricted.
Its in no way a ideal situation, I wish to make things fair between all users, and give each of them a fair share of the full bandwidth/quota from the ISP for personal use. Currently everyone claims someone else is using up all data allowance.
I've seen http://www.gargoyle-router.com - It does allow quotas, however they are very restrictive, when the transfer limit is reached thats it, the user is locked out until the end of the month ( or whatever the renew date is set at). So really it isnt flexible enough.
Also considerd maybe a atom based system with 2 nics, however I wouldnt know where to start. (Is there a pre built linux distro just for this ? - it would need to have a web front end). And it needs to be low power consumption.
Are there any suitable solutions available people can think of.. - I've tried searching cisco's site, however I'm unsure of the exact tech terms i'm looking for so get lost in the jargon.
