Router woes

Hi - I have a TPLINK TDW8961ND. It's starting having issues in the last week or so.

The problem is that my HTC Desire and Kindle Fire HD seem to be having connection issues. They will see and attempt to connect, but eventually time out. Restarting the router will cure it, but it's a pain having to do this as the router is upstairs. Restarting the non connecting devices doesn't sort it. I've updated the firmware on the router.

Once the device eventually connects, it will randomly disconnect - usually once the item goes 'off'. When turned back on, the device shows as being still connected, but it will not get and wireless data.

It's intermittent and very annoying. Other things connected are a laptop, an iPad, the missus' HTC (when she is at home) and very occasionally a wii and a pc.

The router is set to channel 1. There is only one other wireless network, and that's next door's BT Homehub.

Any ideas as to what could be causing the issue?

Many thanks :)

edit - both the Kindle and the HTC have been fully shutdown, and battery removed from the phone. The router has also been uplugged from the mains for 5 mins before turning back on.

During the time between my op and edit, my phone will no longer get wireless data even though it says it is still connected to the router. It was working, I left it and it went into standby mode (screen goes off) but now isn't. Grrrrrrrr

Bump - anyone?

On digging around a bit the DHCP tables show the non-connecting device of only a few seconds whereas everything else is set for 2 days or so

Yes - the item will still be connected to the router as shown by how many items are connected, but it won't transmit data. On disconnecting and trying to reconnect, the kindle or htc then refuses to reconnect.

The htc goes through a cycle of 'obtaining ip address' for a few minutes and then gives up. The kindle does the same, although that sometimes says 'authentication invalid' or some such.

I did try and speak to TP Link helpline, but that wasn't very useful.

Could it be a faulty router? It's only 4 months old. Everything else works fine - just these two items. One works and the other won't, or vice versa! If I eventually get them both connected, which ever goes into standby first is the one that will then not work.

Oops - my bad - should have put it in the op!

Yes - I did, both before and after updating the firmware.

Hmm - haven't tried that yet. I'll turn off the kindle and see what the htc does.

Cheers for the help so far!

Hoookay - after ages messing about with about a billion settings, I have managed to assign my HTC a static IP address (via the DHCP table) that is miles away from any other device.
So far so good - everything seems to be working as it should!

Cheers :)
