My Speedtouch 780 keeps crashing, and I understand that this is quite common.

I have a D-Link DSL-524T router (ADSL2+) which I would like to use, but I am not sure if it is compatible.

According to the Be Forums, the following Routers are definitely compatible:-

Netgear - DG834N, DG834PN, DG834GT (With the Uber Firmware)
Belkin – 7633, N1 (May require Hacked firmware)
Linksys - WAG300
USR - 9108a
Alcatel - 585,716,780 (716, 780 are the current beboxes).
Billion - 7402GL * (Please read the Billion section of this FAQ carefully before embarking)
D-Link 2740B, G804V(Fastpath Required)

I have posted the question as to whether the 524T is compatible with Be on their forums, and received the following response -

'Which isn't true - no surprise there - there is a list of known good routers posted in the FAQ IIRC.'

Yes, thanks for that.

Is there a specific issue as to why any ADSL2+ Router isn't compatible with
Be and if so, can it be fixed? Interestingly enough, the 780 comes with Firewall off as standard and gives a Ping response which I had to fix through Telnet. Pretty crummy IMO.

The problem is usually that Be don't use a username/password, and most routers expect both. The easy answer is to try it and see.

There's nothing wrong with that, indeed it's a good thing.

From my own research the Be box is pretty good at keeping your att down by a couple of dB. Have you played around with putting it into a bridged mode? It will only act as a modem then and you can connect any old router to it to do the rest of the access for other people.
